About This Spot

Stepping into Siroo and Juk Story feels like entering a quiet corner of warmth tucked away in the heart of Ellicott City. The air hums softly with the gentle bustle of a self-service Korean restaurant where the rhythm is unhurried, yet inviting. It’s a spot where you can take your time—whether sharing a meal with a friend or savoring a moment alone with a soothing cup of flower tea.

The atmosphere blends the comforting familiarity of a neighborhood eatery with subtle touches of a tea house’s calm grace. Sunlight filters through windows, casting a gentle glow over simple wooden tables, while the faint aroma of fresh broths and sweet shaved ice lingers as a quiet promise of the meal ahead. There’s a sense of home-style care here, reflected both in the friendly, attentive service and the honest heart of the menu.

Food at Siroo and Juk Story isn’t about chasing trends—it invites you to slow down and enjoy thoughtful flavors. Bowls arrive steaming, layered with fresh ingredients, and shareable plates encourage connection around the table. The shaved ice desserts, light and refreshing with hints of matcha and fruit, offer a gentle counterpoint to the rich, savory warmth of bibimbap or spicy pork kimbap. Meanwhile, the carefully steeped teas provide a quiet moment of reflection amid the meal’s vibrant textures and flavors.

With generous portions and a pace that welcomes lingering conversation, this spot bridges the gap between a casual neighborhood gathering and a thoughtful culinary experience. It’s exactly the kind of place where familiar tastes feel new again and where the small, human moments around food are just as important as the dishes themselves.

This place is much more than what the restaurant name indicates. It has way more than korean rice cakes and congees. It has decent numbers of korean food including many sorts of kimbab and bibimbab, tofu soup, and shaved ice dessert. Service is fast but good, portions are generous, and it is a self service restaurant. Highly recommend for decent korean food or dessert!

Kimchi jjigae on a rainy day. Best staffs, very patient as it was our first time. We heard about this place through TikTok and I took my family here to eat. I wanted to try the tteokbokki but it wasn’t in the menu. I wasn’t sure if we had to ask for it or they don’t sell it. The food portion is perfect! I was surprised it came with a side of miso soup and cabbage salad. The fish cake soup was amazing. My boyfriend gave it a 10/10, he said that’s the best soup I ever tried. The udon noodles with the fish cake were perfect for each other. Everyone loved their meals, there’s no wait time and they made the food fast. The bingsu was incredible. The shaved ice is actually flavored, I’m pretty sure it’s vanilla ice cream and they put filling in the middle and on top. We crushed that so quick! I would recommend this place if you’re interested in trying Korean food. It’s giving food stall, they have a bit of everything!

So cute! Huge portions and love the cafe set up they had! I ordered spicy rice cakes, bulgogi rice, and bingsoo and they were all so delicious. My friend had cold noodles. Excited to try the abalone porridge next time I come here :-)

I come here whenever I’m in Ellicott City. Perfect for meeting and eating with someone. Fairly priced food. The bingsoo is also always great!

If you love "cooked to order"(fresh/delicious) traditional Korean dishes, then Siroo & Juk Story is the place to go (for example, Dolsot "hot stone" Bibimbap, korean soups, meat/dishes, kimbap, diverse selection of ramens, and more). Only negative (reason for 4 star versus 5 star is price increases) is due to recent increase prices (added $1 to meals). Too avoid losing current/future customers, recommend not increasing (possibly reducing) prices, as a food court type of facility versus formal restaurant, where one would expect to pay one or two dollars more, as Korean Restaurants/BBQs provide far more side dishes for the price. Bibimbap, as example, is $14.99, and just down the street at a Korean BBQ restaurant, it is approximately two dollars more, but comes with "many" refillable side dishes, where Siroo & Juk Story only serve very small portion of kimchi with their meals. Facility is very family friendly, clean, and comfortable. Similar to a food court atmosphere, you order and pick up meal at the counter (self-seating). Whatever you do, be sure to grab dessert! Their wicked snow (saved ice) is SO delicious! Recommend, the Berry-Berry option. You won't be disappointed. They are a little pricey, but even a small can be shared. Many people go to Siroo & Juk Story solely for their wicked snow dessert. Finally, they also sell a variety of original Korean snacks, fresh kimchi, and other items to take home. 맛있는 한국 음식과 고객 서비스를 제공해 주신 시루앤죽스토리 셰프님과 직원분들께 감사드립니다

I love this place! I have come here often for their wicked snow and we finally decided to order a meal. Everything was really good. I ordered the tempura shrimp udon which is full of seafood, primarily fish, so it was very strong in the fish flavor but so good.

This place is such a gem. If you love Korean comfort food, this place is a must. The juk (porridge) is incredibly flavorful and soothing without being heavy. It tastes homemade in the best way. The rice cakes are fresh, chewy, and come in so many varieties that it’s hard to choose just one. You can really tell they care about quality and texture. The shop itself is clean and cozy, and everything is well packaged for takeout. The staff are kind, patient, and happy to explain the different types of juk and tteok if you’re not familiar. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and portions are generous enough to share or save for later. Overall, Siroo and Juk Story is the kind of place you find yourself craving on rainy days, busy weeks, or whenever you need something warm and comforting. Everything is so yummy! It is my go to restaurant when I am in the area. If you haven’t been here, you’re missing out!
